Whether you’re in the business of punching or stamping or both, choosing the right coating can greatly enhance the performance of your tooling and even lower tooling costs.
Optima® is a custom-engineered titanium carbo-nitride (TiCN) coating developed by Wilson Tool engineers specifically for punch press and stamping die tooling applications. Optima® coating drastically improves surface hardness, increases wear resistance and lubricity unmatched by any other coated or uncoated stamping tooling. The result is a longer tool life, more hits between sharpenings, reduced galling, better performance and less downtime.
With a hardness of 95 Rockwell C, Optima far exceeds the hardness levels that can be achieved with conventional tool steels and will outlast untreated tools by as much as 5-7 times. It resists galling in aluminum, stainless steel and galvanized steel and is unaffected by sharpening.
For countless fabricators the greater wear resistance and longer tool life enjoyed with Optima has resulted in significantly fewer tooling replacement purchases and lower tooling maintenance costs.
Optima Coating Provides:
- 5-7 times longer tool life.
- 4 times less material adhesion
- Up to 5 times less punch tip wear (especially beneficial on square, rectangle and other shapes with sharp corners)
- Improved surface finish for reduced slug pulling
- Improved special tooling performance
- Lower overall tooling costs
Using Wilson Tool's own state-of-the-art in-house coating facilities, engineers developed a proprietary TiCN coating process. The end result of this process is Optima; a coating that is scientifically engineered with unique properties to significantly enhance stamping and punch press tooling. Wilson Tool is committed to deliver innovative solutions that outlast and outperform the competition.
