Tricks of the Trade: STAMPING
Easy Sharp Tool Cuts Sharpening Time

ImageQ: The company that I work for has become very active in lean manufacturing and one main focus is to cut down tool sharpening time. Do you have any suggestions?

A: Yes! Our Wilson Tool Impax ejector punches are designed with a side hole that will sit below the punch retainer. The purpose is for quick and easy sharpening. The side hole allows the operator the ability to use Wilson Tool’s Easy Sharp Tool to draw back the ejector within the punch body.

Simply place the Easy Sharp Tool into the side hole, then place pressure on the ejector component and the Easy Sharp Tool will automatically snap into place holding the ejector within the punch.

This will:

  • Eliminate the wasted activity of disassembling the ejector components from the punch to sharpen
  • Ensure the proper ejector length protruding from the end of the punch because the ejector length is being adjusted as the punch is sharpened.

The side hole appears on both our headed and ball lock product lines.
