Get More Grind Life with New Trumpf® Style Dies
Save time and money with new Trumpf Grind Life (GL) dies and die plates from Wilson Tool. New Trumpf GL dies and die plates increase the grind life by up to 150% by making it possible to quickly shim your dies up to 2.5mm instead of the current 1.0mm maximum.
GL Die
We've changed the radius profile of our Trumpf GL die to allow up to 1.5mm of grind life with the standard die plate or 2.5mm with the GL die plate, while still having radius left to allow the sheet to flow over the top of the die.
GL Die Plate
Our Trumpf GL die plate key allows for the die to be shimmed up to 2.5mm while maintaining key engagement. The GL size two die plate key contains a spring loaded ball plunger to better secure the dies, and is coated with our Wear-Beater™ coating for easy identification. The key is available separately and is compatible with standard die plates.

TOOLING TIP
Q: I am aware of the fact that in air bending, the inside of the bend is created by the V-opening. What criteria should I use to determine the appropriate punch tip radius?
A: In each of the illustrations below, the V-opening is .394" (10 mm) and the material is .060" (1.5 mm) mild steel. This V-opening yields an inside radius of .066" (1.67 mm). Each of the punch tips shown can be used to create this bend. However, to ensure maximum punch life, it is best to use a punch with a tip radius that is slightly less than the inside radius yielded by the V-opening.

When bending a wide range of materials (i.e. 10-20 gauge mild steel), it is possible to use a single punch tip radius provided that the tip radius is smaller than the inside radius that will be created by the smallest V-opening. For example, the recommended V-opening for 20 gauge mild steel is .236" (6mm), yielding an inside radius of .039" (.99 mm). The recommended V-opening for 10 gauge mild steel is .984" (25 mm), yielding an inside radius of .164" (4.16 mm). A punch with a .030" (0.8 mm) tip radius could be used when air bending this range of material, as this tip radius is slightly less than the inside radius yielded by the smallest V-opening.
