Specialty Coatings and Surface Finishes.
Wilson Tool has expanded our line of specialty coatings and surface finishes providing stampers with an array of options to increase punch life and improve your stamping performance. No matter what your application, we have the ideal coating to meet your specific needs. By improving stripping pressures and reducing galling, our surface finishes not only last longer, they result in a cleaner punch with more accurate hole diameters.
Specialty Coatings.
Optima® coating has set the industry standard for many years. Today, with a micro hardness [HV] of 3500, Optima far exceeds the hardness levels that can be achieved with conventional tool steels and will outlast untreated tools by as much as 5-7 times.
OptimaX™ coating takes our original Optima coating to the next level. This two part coating process offers all the wear resistance and hardness of Optima plus provides added lubricity and further reduces galling.
Wilson CrN coating provides a 2500 HV, making it twice as hard as conventional chrome plating, and a 0.55 coefficient of friction. It is ideal for less demanding applications.
Wilson TicMax coating is a must have for high volume, high tensile sheet metal applications. This CVD style caoting utilizes a heat-treating and tempering process that results in dramatically longer punch life.
Surface Enhancements.
Standard Finish is our basic ground finish and is standard on every punch we produce. It is a conventional radial grind with a finish measuring 6-8 micron for reduced galling, increased wear resistance and longer punch life.
Effex™ Finish gives round punches increased durability and reduces galling. After the punch has been manufactured with our standard finish, we alter the grind lines so they run parallel to the centerline of the tool. Effex finished punches glide soothly, reducing build-up of loose particles and requiring less pressure for easier stripping.
PinPoint™ Straight Line Grind is the ultimate finish for high quality stamping. Available on any style of punch, the finish is produced by precision grinding parallel with the centerline of the tool and then indexing the punch in millionths increments to achieve the required shape, improving the lubrication-retaining characteristics of the ridges and requiring less tonnage for straight shearing.
SheerPerfection™ improves the finish of any punch by up to 4 microns. It is an ideal solution for forming applications to prevent marring resulting from running metal against metal. Couple this finish with any of our coatings for a punch that will be the ultimate in galling resistance.
