Tableting

Tablet compression manufacturers are looking for tablet tooling that makes more product at a lower cost.

Wilson Tool's punches and dies for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, confectionery and related industries provide the best value tooling per application.

We know uptime is important to our customers so we've enhanced our tooling design to ensure no sharp corners. The rounded corner design of our fixed parallel key works to reduce the risk of machine damage sometimes associated with square edged keys.

With intelligent design, patented tool steels and in-house coatings, Wilson Tool helps tablet manufacturers get the most machine up-time for the lowest cost.

Two Design Changes for Success!

Small modifications in punch design can make a big difference in tool efficiency.
The following improvements on traditional design come straight from the latest TSM.

Increase Lower Punch Body Size

The TSM now recommends that the lower punch body increase by .003”, making it the same size as the upper punch. This change reduces the clearance between the body and the bore, creating a more stable fit, and less wear due to lateral forces on the punch.

Reduce Stress with Domed Head Design

Modeled after extensively tested European designs, the domed head has a larger 5/8” radius that results in greater “flat” and increased dwell time. This design decreases stress on the punch head, and can reduce pitting. Conveniently, domed head punches can run in any standard TSM flat head machine.

PM-M4 is an extremely durable steel that lasts longer than others in demanding applications.

Excessive Downtime Isn’t Easy to Swallow

This article was originally published in Tablets and Capsules.

For manufacturers, downtime is a necessary evil. It’s when production stops so you can clean and maintain your machinery and change over the tooling. Ideally, downtime would be scheduled and occur between tabletting runs, but some problems occur with no warning. In addition, consumer trends put formulators and marketers under pressure to change the shape, size, and overall look of tablets to enhance their appeal. These changes eventually flow to the people involved in manufacturing, forcing them to adapt quickly to make new tablets that may not run as easily on the press.
